Book signing with Sarah Lister – Meandering Down The Ribble

June 18, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Sarah Lister, (Author of ‘The Railway Navvies of Settle), is publishing her new book, ‘Meandering down the Ribble, Born and Bred in the Long Preston Floodplain’, on the 1st of June. She’ll be here on the 18th, signing copies, and answering all of your burning questions!

The book takes an incredible journey down the Ribble, from Giggleswick to Wigglesworth, (with a stop off at the Plough Inn of course), and then on to Long Preston, visiting families who lived there in bygone days.

It reveals hardworking families who had anything but a quiet life, and finds the occasional criminal, (of course), but also local, national and international heroes and heroines.  Just as the Ribble meanders through hazards, floods and drought, these people had to be savvy, resourceful and lucky to navigate the perils of the 19th century.  The book is a light hearted and gentle meander through their lives, and it discovers that almost everyone is related to everyone else.

The book costs £5 and is published by Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. Many descendants and local history groups have contributed information and photos to bring these ancestors to life, and Sarah thanks you if you are one of them. The 160 page book is beautifully illustrated by Teresa Gordon.
