Poetry Readings & Chat in celebration of World Poetry Day 2022 – 4pm-5.15pm

March 19, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm

World Poetry Day 2022 is coming up. To mark the occasion, join us in the shop for some ‘after hours’ poetry readings and chat with local poets John Killlick, Jean Stevens, David Driver and JR Carpenter. Each poet will read a poem or two of their choice, and then be available for questions and book signing.

John has been writing poetry his whole life, and has contributed poems, essays and reviews to a wide variety of publications, including Poetry Review, Times Literary Supplement, Times Educational Supplement, PN Review and ‘The North’ and Pennine Platform.

Jean’s poems have appeared in Acumen, London Magazine, Stand, The North, Mslexia, Other Poetry, the Bridport Prize Anthology 2016, (amongst many others), and have been broadcast on BBC Radio Three and Radio Four. She is a past winner of the Yorkshire Post Prize and the Leeds Libraries Writing Prize, and has been shortlisted for The Rialto Prize and The Poetry Business Pamphlet Competition 2017.

David Driver is an English writer, author, published poet, storyteller and broadcaster born and bred in Yorkshire. He’s written poetry for children and adults and has performed with The World Storytelling Café, The Bradford Festival, and has been involved with Settle Stories. His work has been published both in the UK and the USA. In September 2020 three of his poems were published in `Viral Verses, Art in Exceptional Times`: an anthology of poems from over one hundred thirty poets and writers and thirty artists.

JR’s poetry collection ‘This is a Picture of Wind’ was voted one of the best poetry books of 2020 by The Guardian. It was also longlisted for the 2021 Simon Armitage Laurel Prize. One of their poems also won 2nd prize in The Future Places Environmental Poetry Prize in 2021.
